In its crusade against corruption and graft cases, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption caught a lat mandal red-handed in South Salmara-Mankachar district for accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000 from a person for processing mutation of his land through RTPS.
“Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed and arrested Abu Taleb Miah, Lat Mandal, O/O the South Salmara Revenue Circle, after he accepted Rs 13,000 as part of demanded bribe from the complainant for processing of mutation of land,” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Surendra Kumar said in a tweet.
The lat mandal, Md Abu Taleb Miah, of the office of the Circle Officer, South Salmara Revenue Circle, had demanded Rs 21,000 as a bribe from an individual for processing mutation of his land through RTPS.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the individual approached the Directorate of VAC for taking necessary legal action against the public servant.
“A trap was laid on February 22 by a team from the Directorate of VAC in the office of the Circle Officer, South Salmara Revenue Circle. Md Abu Taleb Miah was caught red-handed at 12:55 pm, immediately after he accepted Rs 13,000 as a part of the demanded bribe,” an official statement of Assam Police said here.
“The bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has accordingly been seized in presence of independent witnesses. Subsequently, he has been arrested by the team after getting sufficient evidence,” the statement said.
A case has been registered in ACB Police Station vide ACB PS Case No 04/2023 under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Md Abu Taleb Miah.
“Necessary legal follow-up action is underway,” the statement added.
