Will continue fighting against uranium mining: HANM

Mawkyrwat:

The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), South West Khasi Hills District, on Monday asserted that it will fight tooth and nail against the mining of uranium in the district.

The organisation also said that it would foil all attempts of the central government and the state government to extract uranium in any part of the state.

Speaking to the media, the HANM president Lambokstar Marwein said, “No uranium mining in South West Khasi Hills District even if the government would hunt down its members.”

Stating that the oganisation will not back down, Marwein said they will not let government’s desperate attempts to extract uranium succeed.

He also urged Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong not to make public speeches on uranium mining and if the state government was against uranium in Meghalaya, it should announce in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The organisation also urged district’s representative Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and MLA Pius Marwein to speak about uranium mining. HANM also urged the NGOs of Meghalaya to stand united against uranium mining in Meghalaya.
