Woman detained for encroaching on forest land in Guwahati

The woman had occupied an area measuring 7800 sq ft inside the reserve forest and had constructed a house.

GUWAHATI:

A woman was arrested by forest personnel of Hengrabari Beat in Guwahati on December 5 for illegally constructing a house on forest land in Hengrabari Reserve Forest.

The woman identified as Purnima Singha Rajkumari alias Purnima Singh (50), widow of Manila Rajkumar, who hails from Dudhpur in Silchar, had occupied an area measuring 7800 sq ft inside the reserve forest for the construction of a house.

“Based on specific information, a team of forest personnel carried a search-cum-patrolling operation at Hengrabari Reserve Forest under Guwahati Forest Range of Kamrup Forest East Division. The team detected a plot where fresh construction was being carried out by the woman for illegal occupation of an area measuring 7800 sq ft,” Pranjal Baruah, range officer of Guwahati Forest Range, said.

“The whole area was searched and the IO detected and seized all kinds of construction materials including the temporary bamboo hut and prepared a seizure list in presence of her family member and staff. As the accused person failed to produce any document regarding the ownership of the claimed piece of land, she was arrested and taken to Guwahati Range for further investigation,” Baruah added.
