AGARTALA:
At least six insurgents, including two collaborators of the proscribed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) Biswamohan Faction (BM) surrendered before the Tripura Police with arms on August 5.
As per police sources, on July 21, four armed cadres of NLFT(BM) faction – self-styled Colonel Umesh Kolai Uklai (42), self-styled Lieutenant Colonel Victor Jamatia (47) alias Hallam, self-styled Warrant Officer Fanijoy Reang Sathukri alias Athukri (39), and Uttam Kishore Jamatia (42) alias Usha – entered Tripura from Bangladesh through Ganganagar border in Dhalai district to carry out kidnapping and extortion.
“Sensing their movement inside the state, intelligence-based special operations were launched involving Tripura State Rifle jawans, district police, CRPF and BSF personnel. As a result of which, the group faced hardships to move and even survive in the deep jungles of Baramura hill range. The pressure exerted by security forces made them surrender before the Tripura Police,” police said.
Police further said that two of their collaborators identified as Surjya Kishore Jamatia (60) and Brajendra Reang (60) also surrendered with the group.
During the surrender, they deposited one AK-56 rifle with two magazines and 60 rounds, one M-20 pistol with one magazine and five rounds, one 38-M pistol with one magazine and 15 rounds, extortion notice book of NLFT, and notice pad (money receipt).
“Preliminary interrogation of the cadres revealed that the NLFT (BM) group is facing financial and other hardships. Their survival has become difficult due to continuous pressure from security forces in their hideouts inside the state,” police added.
