SHILLONG:
State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ernest Mawrie on May 1 said that the party has not received any information about TMC (Trinamool Congress) leaders joining the BJP.
Briefing media persons about TMC leaders meeting Cabinet Minister AL Hek on the possible merger, Mawrie said, “We are not aware if the TMC leaders will join us. Maybe the TMC leaders discussed the matter with Hek as he (Hek) has already given a press conference on the topic,” he said.
Refuting claims that there is division between the BJP leaders, Mawrie said that everyone is entitled to their own views and that cannot be stopped, however, there are certain things, leaders cannot spill in the open.
“In a few days the party will give directions to its leaders on giving press conferences openly against party wishes. Being a minister, they have to talk about their own department, what development he will bring for the state, and for the party, the party will take decisions,” Mawrie added.
When asked if the BJP is open to merger with other parties, Mawrie said, “We are welcome, anybody from any party can join the BJP, but there should be a communication from the state and the centre,” Mawrie added.
