Body of new born found in EGH, investigation ongoing

On being alerted, a police team from Williamnagar rushed to the spot and found the dead foetus wrapped in a pink floral flanner with a blue clip attached on the navel lying on clumps of bamboo branches at the Rongap river.

Residents of Rongap village under Williamnagar in East Garo Hills found the foetus of a new born baby floating in the Rongap river on April 3 morning.

On being alerted, a police team from Williamnagar rushed to the spot and found the dead foetus wrapped in a pink floral flanner with a blue clip attached on the navel lying on clumps of bamboo branches at the Rongap river.

According to police, an inquest was conducted over the dead foetus in the presence of witnesses and the dead foetus was taken to the Civil hospital morgue room for conducting the PM examination.

Preliminary inquiry in the matter suggests that the case is of still born baby delivered at Civil hospital Williamnagar which was later handed over to the father by the attending M.O. for conducting last rites. However, he secretly disposed off dead foetus at Rongap river. The matter is under investigation.
