Centre needs to examine all aspects & act accordingly: NPP on Manipur crisis

Stating that the party wants peace and harmony to prevail in Manipur, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We want things to go back to normalcy because people are suffering, irrespective of their communities. There is a humanitarian kind of crisis out there and something needs to be done to cool the situation.”

SHILLONG:

National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on June 30, said that the government of India needs to examine all aspects and provisions of the Constitution before arriving at the decision on the Manipur crisis.

“The situation in Manipur is very complicated and there are many factors; hence, the government of India has to examine all options and act accordingly,” Sangma said.

“Of course, every decision will have its own repercussion and impact and how you would further handle the situation that may arise out of that decision has to be seen holistically,” he added.

Sangma further suggested the government of India be prepared for any kind of repercussions. “Whatever decision the government takes, they have to realise that it has got its own ramification. It should be done in a balanced manner,” the NPP chief said.

Stating that the party wants peace and harmony to prevail in Manipur, Sangma said, “We want things to go back to normalcy because people are suffering, irrespective of their communities. There is a humanitarian kind of crisis out there and something needs to be done to cool the situation.”

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today dispelled all speculations of him resigning after he took to Twitter to announce his decision.

He wrote, “At this crucial juncture, I wish to clarify that I will not be resigning from the post of Chief Minister.”

Earlier, his supporters gathered outside his residence, requesting him not to resign. When the chief minister was preparing to meet the governor, one of his ministers read out the content of his resignation letter and handed the same to a few women supporters; following this, supporters tore the letter into pieces.
