Champhai public urge govt to revoke DC Zuali’s transfer order; protest ensues

Aizawl:

Mizoram’s Champhai wore a deserted look on January 21 as all shops and commercial establishments in the town remained closed following protests by a conglomeration of NGOs demanding revocation of the transfer order of deputy commissioner Maria C T Zuali.

The Mizoram government, on January 13, had issued an order to transfer Zuali and it had drawn flaks from several quarters.

“The people of Champhai district are united on the issue. We have made it very clear that we did not want our DC to be transferred at this crucial time,” an NGO leader from Champhai said.

A day post the issuance of the transfer order, the civil society groups, after a joint meeting, had requested the Mizoram government to revoke the transfer order by January 18. However, the government didn’t respond to it. Soon after, the NGOs’ coordination committee decided to launch a series of protests starting from today.

The NGO have also decided to hold a peaceful procession in Champhai on January 24, followed by a total bandh on Republic Day.
