Shillong:
Chief minister Conrad K Sangma, on January 21, informed that he has tested positive for Covid-19 with “mild symptoms”.
Taking to a popular microblogging website, Sangma announced, “I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am isolating myself for the required time. I have mild symptoms.”
Unable to take part in the state’s 50th Statehood Day celebrations held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday, Sangma addressed the audience virtually and advised the people to strictly follow the Covid protocols and get themselves vaccinated.
“I would like to apologize as I could not be present there physically as this morning I started developing cold symptoms. (So) till my tests are out, I felt it appropriate not to be part of large gatherings in the general interest of the public (sic),” he tweeted.
On January 20, Sangma along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, and jointly submitted the border committee report. Sangma developed symptoms after he returned from New Delhi.
Earlier, the chief minister had contracted the virus in December 2020.
