SHILLONG:
Sitting MDC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from South Tura Bernard Marak, on February 7, said all the projects implemented in South Tura are sponsored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not initiated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, “as he claimed”.
“All the work in South Tura was done by the BJP government yet no credit was given to PM Modi. CM takes all the credit. He has not initiated even a single project and people are aware of the facts,” Marak told media persons after filing his nomination in Tura.
When asked about his prospects as he is set to go up against the chief minister, Marak said, “It’s a fight against corruption and I am standing on behalf of BJP. We have zero tolerance for corruption. We are going to show people the good side of politics.”
Stating that the state has been a victim of bad politics, the BJP candidate said, “The people have been deprived of the schemes provided by the centre. We want to ensure that not even a single person is left out.”
Asked whether the tag ‘anti-Christian’ would impact his prospect, Marak replied in the negative.
“I am a Christian and most of the voters are Christians. Yet they are here, supporting me. It will have no impact,” he said.
