TURA:

A coordinated operation by West Garo Hills police with support from Dhubri police in Assam led to the rescue of a woman and her six-month-old child, ten days after they were abducted from the Rongkhon village market near Phulbari, in the district, on July 3.

The accused, identified as Moni Zaman (23) of Shyamding in Phulbari, had known the victim and was a habitual harasser who had been threatening the woman for the past couple of months. On June 22, he had abducted her and the child and kept them confined in a house in Dhubri district of Assam.

“During an investigation, headed by our woman police officer Chemetengsil A Sangma, it was revealed that the victims were being kept confined in a place called Beltuli under Bilasipara police station of Dhubri district. We conducted a joint operation with Dhubri police and rescued both. The kidnapper has also been arrested and presented in a court in Tura,” revealed West Garo Hills Superintendent of police, Vivekanand Singh Rathore.

Police said that the accused had allegedly created ruckus in a shop of the victim’s father multiple times in March and April 2022. In this connection, cases have been registered against him and charge sheets are soon to be filed, stated the police chief.
