Chief minister Conrad Sangma informed on May 17 that the state cabinet has passed the decision to rename Lady Hydari Park as Ka Phan Nonglait Park.
The chief minister, following the cabinet meeting, told media persons, ‘the decision to rename Lady Hydari Park as Ka Phan Nonglait Park has been approved. This was a choice that was made a very long time ago, but it had ups and downs because of earlier administrative issues. Today, we finally approved the proposal.’
Many people in the Khasi community honour Phan Nonglait as a British-era freedom fighter.
