SHILLONG:
Kharkutta legislator Rupert Momin has credited the National People’s Party’s success in the Assembly elections to “good performance” of the first Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the Garo Hills.
The NPP won 18 out of 24 seats in Garo Hills and 8 out of 36 seats in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
“The MDA-I government performed well in Garo Hills region. Not only in Garo Hills, but in some parts of Jaintia Hills and Khasi Hills too,” Momin told reporters.
He said that the MDA government was able to ensure peace and tranquility in the entire state.
“It also took up road constructions, livelihood missions, rural grassroots economy – these are some of the impact that led to us securing good number of seats in the last election,” Momin added.
When asked, the Kharkutta legislator admitted that the NPP got an upper hand in the election due to the split in the Congress and the TMC and said, “We got some good result out of that because of that. As I have mentioned, we gave a good performance for last five years and ensuring peace in Garo Hills region.”
He also urged the political leaders to work together for the interest of the people and make Meghalaya a good state.
“It depends on our own goals, how you are going to work for the people, as for me I have decided to work for the people in my constituency, that is my objective,” he added.
