Mukul calls upon political parties to deliberate on core issues rather than inciting violence

Mukul was reacting to the violence in Tura, wherein a mob attacked the meeting of Conrad K Sangma in a bid to create law and order situation.

SHILLONG:

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Sangma, has called upon members of different political parties to come together and deliberate on issues confronting the people of the state, including the sensitive issues.

Mukul was reacting to the violence in Tura, wherein a mob attacked the meeting of Conrad K Sangma in a bid to create law and order situation.

“These kinds of violence have strong ramifications to bring division among the people which is not good for the future of the state. We have to ensure that we do not reduce our state to the situation we see elsewhere,” Mukul told media persons.

He said that Meghalaya must lead by example, and that can only be determined on how the leaders use the wisdom vested upon them.

“I would like to urge upon everyone concerned to seek wisdom from the almighty rather than playing petty politics which has got serious ramifications,” he said.

He said that people use their wisdom to see if violent acts unite people or binds them.

He said people must decide on anything that is good for the state.

“Having seen what has happened, I think that law is somebody’s monopoly. I am reminding everybody that law is not anybody’s monopoly, law is for the weakest, for the oppressed, and for the victims,” he said.

Mukul also alleged that the district police has reduced itself as an instrument of the political bosses and the government.

“Why do I say this? Because suddenly they went and arrested Richard Marak to give it a political twist, who was the TMC candidate from South Tura,” Mukul claimed.
