Prestone slams Mukul for ‘insulting’ police department

“Is he trying to say that during his time as the chief minister, he used all the police officers for his own interests? If yes, then that is very unfortunate,” Tynsong questioned Sangma

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong, on July 27, hit back at TMC leader and former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma for ‘insulting’ the police department by terming the cops an ‘instrument of political bosses’.

“Is he trying to say that during his time as the chief minister, he used all the police officers for his own interests? If yes, then that is very unfortunate,” Tynsong questioned Sangma.

Stating that the government and the police are here to protect the interests of the people of the state, the deputy chief minister said, “We are here, be it the chief minister or deputy chief minister, not to protect ourselves but the citizens.”

Earlier, TMC leader Dr. Mukul Sangma questioned the manner in which the police handled the aftermath of the Tura mayhem and said that the police were acting at the behest of political bosses. His statement came following the arrests of several individuals who reportedly had political affiliation with either the TMC or the BJP.

So far, 35 people have been arrested in connection with the mayhem in Tura on July 24 evening that injured several police personnel and citizens and subsequently led to the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC and night curfew in West Garo Hills district.
