Shillong-Dawki Road Project: NHIDCL terminates ARSS’ contract due to ‘poor’ progress of work

“I was informed that cancellation was done against ARSS due to poor progress of work. The head office of NHIDCL terminated the contract of ARSS,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong said, adding that there has been a complaint against the work being carried out by the company. 

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong, on April 25, informed that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) has terminated the contract with ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd, a company that was implementing Package II of the Shillong-Dawki Road Project, from Mylliem till Pynursla.

“I was informed that cancellation was done against ARSS due to poor progress of work. The head office of NHIDCL terminated the contract of ARSS,” Tynsong said, adding that there has been a complaint against the work being carried out by the company.

Earlier, The Meghalayan had reported about this development. NHIDCL sources had stated that they were asked by the state government to terminate the contract with ARSS after the Rngain landslide that killed two people on April 14.

Following the incident, it was reported that NHIDCL had written to ARSS, asking if it still wants to continue with the project, to which ARSS replied in the negative and subsequently, the contract was terminated.

The deputy chief minister informed that a meeting was also held to discuss the progress of the Shillong-Dawki Road project, particularly Package II, IV and V.

“We discussed about the landslides-prone areas and have identified a few deplorable ones. The technical people from NHIDCL have been asked to prepare the action plan to deal with the situation ahead of the monsoon. They were also instructed to make sure that a dedicated team to be present 24X7 for any emergency work (sic),” Tynsong added.
