Tripura Chief Minister tests positive for Covid-19

A State Disease Surveillance officer had said that Tripura recorded a positivity rate of 7.12 per cent on July 10 from 1.79 per cent on July 4, which is a sharp increase.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who on July 20 morning inaugurated the newly constructed Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plant and renovated pond at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Complex in Agartala, tested Covid-19 positive by evening.

Taking to a popular microblogging site, Saha wrote, “I’ve tested Covid-19 positive today. I am absolutely fit & fine with no symptoms. I humbly request all those who’ve come in contact with me to take necessary precautions (sic).”

Reacting to the news, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb also tweeted, “I pray to Mata Tripurasundari for your speedy and complete recovery CM @DrManikSaha2 Ji. Get well soon (sic).”

Earlier on July 11, the state government had directed the public to compulsorily wear face masks and follow all Covid-appropriate behaviours after a spike in positive cases.

Earlier, the Union Health Ministry had revealed that India had reported 15,528 new Covid cases in 24 hours on July 19, which is a decline from the previous day’s count of 16,935.

In the same period, the country has reported 25 more Covid deaths, taking the nationwide toll to 5,25,785.
