Tripura Congress MLA meets DGP, flags law and order situation

Sudip Roy Barman said that he has informed the DGP that a section of the police is working hand in glove with people with an unsavoury reputation.

AGARTALA:

Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, on August 18, met with Director General of Police, Amitabha Ranjan, and apprised him of the current ‘grim situation’ that is prevailing across the state.

“I knew the DGP when he was a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the year 1993. I came here to meet him personally and to apprise him about the entire scenario of the state. I have also apprised him of the present grim situation which is prevailing in the state. It was not an official but rather an unofficial visit,” Roy Barman said as he emerged from the Tripura Police Headquarters in Agartala.

He also said that he has apprised the DGP about the attack on him which took place during a Congress event at Majlishpur assembly constituency of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Sushanta Chowdhury on August 11.

“We have broadly described the present state of affairs. I have also informed him about the attacks that were recently carried out on me with the intention to kill me. After listening, the DGP said that he was wrongly briefed by the police personnel about the entire incident that occurred recently. I told the DGP that the attack on me was intentional and pre-planned. The situation of the state is grim, and the law and order situation has completely collapsed,” he said.

Roy Barman also said that he has informed the top cop that a section of the police is working hand in glove with people with an unsavoury reputation.

“I have apprised the top cop that a section of police personnel is linked with goondas and working together. He has noted everything and I hope he will take action as soon as possible. I have no doubt about his efficiency. I have also informed him regarding not giving permission to the political parties to hold rallies or other events. I hope soon there will be some changes,” he added.
