SHILLONG:
The state government has warned of action against government employees who openly participate in public meetings and gatherings organised by political parties.
The order issued by Commissioner and Secretary in-charge Personnel & AR (A) department R Lyngdoh on Wednesday said that it had come to the notice of the government that a number of government employees have been seen openly participating in or attending public meetings/gatherings organised by political parties which is in direct violation of Rule 20 (1) of the Meghalaya Services (Conduct) Rules, 2019 which states that “No Government employee shall be a member of, or otherwise be associated with any political party, or with any organisation which takes part in politics, or whose activities have political bearing, nor shall he take part in, subscribe in aid of, or assist in any other manner, any political movement or activity”.
The order said, “It is reiterated and impressed upon all Government employees to strictly observe the stated Rule in letter and spirit and to refrain from indulging in such activities that are anti-Government and any Government employee found violating these instructions will attract strict Government action as per instructions under Rule 20 of the Meghalaya Services (Conduct) Rules, 2019.”
The order also directed all administrative departments and heads of departments to bring the contents of this order to the attention of all district and subordinate offices for strict compliance.
