SHILLONG:
Cabinet Minister and Spokesperson of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) II Ampareen Lyngdoh, on June 20, said that there are various factors that led to the change of coalition partnership in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) but whether that coalition will impact the MDA, of which United Democratic Party (UDP) is a part of, is yet to be seen and understood.
“Because we are coalition partners in MDA II, there will be opportunities and platforms to talk about why it happened; we need to get over and ahead of it. At this point of time, we need to work together to solve the various vexing problems that emerged in the initial stage of governance post 2023,” Lyngdoh told media persons.
She further pointed out that the district council is not under any scrutiny, adding that the coalition and functioning in the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) insulates leaders from constitutional scrutiny.
“Whether or not that coalition will also change the MDA II is something that is yet to responded, yet to be seen and understood,” Lyngdoh added.
It may be mentioned that with the collapse of the UDP-led Executive Committee (EC) in KHADC, the NPP has partnered with Congress to form the new EC, with Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the NPP MDC from Sohryngkham, as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM).
