1331 kg cannabis worth Rs 60 L seized in Tripura’s Teliamura; one held

The contraband was seized from a goods-laden 12-wheeler lorry.

AGARTALA:

In yet another successful drug bust in the state, the Tripura Police seized 1331 kg cannabis worth Rs 60 lakh from a 12-wheeler lorry in the Teliamura sub-division under Tripura’s Khowai district, on March 26. The driver, identified as Ravi Kumar, has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Sonacharan Jamatia, a sub-divisional police officer, Teliamura, said that after receiving a credible tip-off, police personnel of Mungiakami Police Station set up a check post at the 41 Mile area and seized the contraband from the goods-laden lorry coming from Agartala.

“Going by the information we received; we suspected the truck. At the check post, we detained it and carried out a search operation and recovered a large quantity of dried cannabis whose market value is Rs 60 lakh,” he said.

On receiving the news, Bhanupada Chakraborty, district superintendent of police, Khowai, rushed to the spot.

Police also informed that the cannabis was loaded at Agartala and the truck was en route to other states.
