4 Meghalaya police personnel recognised for meritorious service

A total of 1,082 police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day.

NEW DELHI:

As many as four police personnel from Meghalaya were, on August 14, awarded with police medal for meritorious service on the eve of Independence Day celebration.

Among them was commandant of 6th battalion Meghalaya Police based in Umran Ri Bhoi district Lakador Syiem, superintendent of police in West Jaintia Hills Bikram D Marak, deputy commandant of 4th MLP battalion Thulisserryl C Chacko and AB Inspector Galdinson R Marak have been awarded with prestigious police medal for meritorious service on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day celebration.

Similarly, 23 police personnel from Assam have been awarded with police medal for gallantry, President’s police medal for distinguished service and police medal for meritorious service on the eve of the Independence Day celebration.

One police officer from Arunachal Pradesh has been conferred with the President’s police medal for distinguished service and one officer has been awarded with police medal for meritorious service.

One police officer from Manipur has been conferred with the President’s police medal for distinguished service and seven police officers have been conferred with police medal for meritorious service.

One police officer from Mizoram has been conferred with the President’s police medal for distinguished service and two police officers have been conferred with police medal for meritorious service.

Similarly, one police officer from Nagaland has been conferred with the President’s police medal for distinguished service and two police officers have been conferred with police medal for meritorious service.

One police officer from Sikkim has been conferred with the President’s police medal for distinguished service and one police officer has been conferred with police medal for meritorious service.

A total of 1,082 police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day.

Among the majority of the 347 Gallantry Awards, 204 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir, 80 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 14 personnel for their gallant action in North-East Region.

Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 109 are from CRPF, 108 are from J&K Police, 19 are from BSF, 42 are from Maharashtra, 15 are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining from the other States and UTs and CAPFs.
