NONGPOH:
A person was carried away by the strong current of a stream near the National Highway 6 at midnight on June 13, at a time when heavy rain was lashing this part of the state for three consecutive hours.
His body was later discovered next to the bushes near the district sessions court in Ri Bhoi district.
The deceased, who was between the age of 45 and 50, and his friends had reportedly sought shelter in a nearby covered area as they made their way home through the downpour.
While taking refuge, the man slipped and fell into the stream, and then got carried away by the strong current.
After a search that lasted up to almost three hours, which was initiated by friends and then joined by passersby, the body was found near by the bushes of the stream near the district sessions court of Ri Bhoi.
In light of the fact that the deceased was also a resident of Umlyngkdait, the body was subsequently retrieved by the local residents.
When the police arrived, they transferred the lifeless body to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for a post-mortem.
