Taxi drivers’ association not to allow non-local cabbies in city

Addressing a gathering at Khyndailad, president of the association Wandonbok Jyrwa said, “We have just come from the SP’s office and he clarified that the miscreants involved in the case have been arrested. We are happy that the officials have met our demands.”

Hours after the police arrested the miscreants involved in the Khyndailad assault case, East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association stated that they will not allow non-local cab drivers to ply in the city.

Addressing a gathering at Khyndailad, president of the association Wandonbok Jyrwa said, “We have just come from the SP’s office and he clarified that the miscreants involved in the case have been arrested. We are happy that the officials have met our demands.”

The general secretary of the association raised a query in front of the crowd and asked if they were in favour of allowing non-local cabbies to continue plying in the city, to which the crowd replied in the negative.

“The miscreants who have assaulted our brothers should be the ones paying for their medical expenses and I am overjoyed to see all the cabbies stand united for the first time in this fight and I believe we have succeeded in this fight of ours,” the general secretary of the association added.
